In general, tourists from other European countries here in Paris are friendly and delightful, particularly from Britain, Italy and the Netherlands. It is always a relief when you start conversing with them, that most of them speak far better English than French. With my terrible French, I was attempting to speak with an older couple from Britain when the woman asked me in French where I was from. Then she said, “Oh, thank goodness. We can speak English, then.” Have to admit, the convo went much more smoothly afterward. I can’t imagine how difficult my tortured French is to understand for those for whom it is a second language, ha!
