You haven’t seen empty streets in a big city until you’ve seen Paris in August on a bank holiday. I went to two stores that were closed before I realized it was a holiday. So then I went on a photo junket; the streets were empty! Hoping In can find somewhere to eat tonight; no food in the apartment, and most of the restaurants are closed, too. Sounds like a good day to go to the Marais … always open there. Seriously, though, if you spend your money to go to Paris in August, you’ll be greatly disappointed at how many stores and cultural institutions are closed. The Opera, Folies Bergere, Maxim’s, hair salons, clothing stores. It’s really kind of amazing. On the up side, there are fewer tourists and traffic, if that matters to you.
